Neonic pesticides are decimating bee colonies, which play an essential role in pollinating our crops. The use of these pesticides is jeopardizing the food chain. Studies conducted recently in Quebec and around the world revealed that neonic seed treatment is unnecessary in 95% of cases.
Finally, Health Canada has listened to the international scientific consensus and actions of civil society groups like Équiterre asking Canada to ban neonics, and recognize that these pesticides pose significant harm to our environment.
But, Health Canada is proposing to wait another 3-5 years to ban Canada’s top selling neonics! Our pollinators and ecosystems can’t wait that long.
We cannot accept this delay.
THIS IS OUR LAST CHANCE TO TAKE ACTION
Health Canada is consulting Canadians until November 13th on its proposed decision. It’s our last chance to ask Health Canada to follow Europe’s lead and ban all neonics by the end of 2018.If we knew a drug caused serious side effects, we wouldn’t wait years to pull it from the shelves.
Europe will ban neonics by the end of the year. France already passed a law to phase out all neonics, starting in September 2018. Other countries will follow suit. With your help, Canada could become the first North American country to ban the use of these harmful and unnecessary pesticides.
